Liking the blog so far. Its especially interesting as I'm coming from a similar background: someone who was heavily into GW but now wants something lighter & quicker. I've already dabbled in other mini manufacturers ranges, and have just begun getting into Warmachine & Hordes. I've gathered a good starting point for a Mercenary force, and am putting together a Circle force for Hordes. Amusingly though I seem to be working in reverse to you: I have the Epic version of Kaya, one of the the plastic Griffons and just assembled a Warpwolf Stalker, but am still waiting on my copy of the 2 Player set from Maelstrom.
I like the results you've gotten from the Army Painter Quickshade though. I was intrigued by it and having seen what an actual gamers minis look like, may have to take the plunge....
